When I gather up links for my newsletter, I categorize them under a taxonomy of UX sins. But I'm honestly at a loss when it comes to this bullshit, because it ticks so many boxes at once.

It's a little early for a rant, but I hope you'll oblige me.

The video stream won’t be visible to a driver in motion, but they will still be able to use many new Team features on the car’s central display

I've long talked about the distinction between taste and a point of view. I think this is another piece of that puzzle - designers talk about "usable" and "useful" but that's not really enough. Unless it is purposeful, no one will use it except for your imagined personas.
it's pathetic that AI boosters settle for "useful" in the pursuit of innovation.

We need to reject any significant product that is not openly "purposeful".

It's important to recognise when they don't assert any purpose for *us*.

It doesn't mean there isn't one for *them*.

Remember that WaPo's publicly announced mission is mission to become “an A.I.-fueled platform for news” that delivers “vital news, ideas and insights for all Americans where, how and when they want it.”

In other words, leadership's brain is already AI soup & reporting will follow.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

Terrific thread, that will fire your brain up (in a way an LLM could never understand.)
One of the most common arguments you hear from fans of generative ‘AI’ is that it’s not plagiarizing people’s work, it’s just learning like a human learns. So I’m going to break down why that’s just not true, and why it can never be true, with the existing systems. 1/
