So when he said if all the debut prize nominees came back he’d withdraw, he was just lying?

Definitely don’t do this. Definitely not. No.

The employee asked the girl and her mother if they needed help shopping. That’s it. That’s all. The misinformation, the insinuations (because the facts are inconveniently benign) are EXACTLY what was done to lesbians in the 80s. This is the product of hate and fear, not reality.

Argh, when there’s a cutting error in a book…

The full paragraphs for complete context. Tap to see handmaiden part. He mischaracterizes what trans rights mean, then mischaracterizes those who advocate for them as incels, indoctrinated young people, and handmaidens.

Super interesting book by my friend Harry Tanner about queer love and the rise of homophobia in western culture, all the way back to the Sumerians. Out in September.

The most completely baffling algorithmic website ad I’ve ever seen. I don’t live in North Tyneside. I don’t know what a no fuss cremation is or why the truth needs exposing. I have no idea what’s being sold or why this might be clickbait. It’s almost a work of art.

As a man, I use my (alleged) strength to defend and protect trans people under relentless, lie-filled attacks from people like you, who seem to have missed who the bad guys were in Handmaid’e Tale so… thanks?

You may not know I have a new book out! I’m not kidding when I say I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written, with genuinely hilarious illustrations by Tim Miller. Have a read of these little lizard weirdos.

This is the core lie in “gender critical”, that trans women are a threat. Change “decent men” to “decent black women” and “women’s and girls’ safety” to “white women’s and girls’ safety” and it’s 1955. Change them to “lesbians” and “straight women” and it’s 1982. Same old hate.

I get very tired of the “But people are mean to her” argument. People who defend trans rights get just as much vitriol. You should see some of the tweets I’ve had. Or ask any woman. Or Black person. Or *trans* person. And yet somehow *we’ve* all managed not to side with Putin, Musk and Trump.

Yael van der Wouden, who won last night’s @womensprize.bsky.social for Fiction, said she was intersex in her speech and had only got the right treatment because of “every trans person who’s fought for healthcare.” Say it again: Transphobia. Hurts. Everyone.

In much more somber news, today is also the anniversary of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shootings when 49 gorgeous lives were taken by the kind of hate being peddled by so many people today. We see you. Yes we do.

Book two is out now! And I honestly think it’s among the best books I’ve ever written. No joke. And brilliant illustrations by Tim Miller.
