Happy 141st birthday to the Toronto Public library. 🎉🎉 Check out (see what I did there 😄) the 1884 library card.

I did not have “agree with Doug Ford” on my 2025 bingo card.

Good news for Albertans! Note that only indices are available online, but if you find a person of interest, copies are readily available from the archives for a small fee.

I’m mad at you, Justin. You’ve disappointed me so many times and then you do a thing like this. Well done, sir.

Enjoy!

It’s a ski day for us too. Except in our case we need skis to leave our house. 20 cm overnight added to the 25 Tuesday and it’s still falling.

The local library was selling nonfiction 5 for $1 today. I nabbed these two. “Tracing your Saskatchewan Ancestors” is still great, 24 years after it was first printed. I’ll likely offer them to my genealogy society.

This beautiful story explores what it means to be Chinese in Canada as Keira and Helen travel across the country, eventually journeying to their historic roots in southern China. Love, loss, and discovery. Catch the film online until Sunday and then join us in this free talkback session on Tuesday.

In about 1906, my great grandfather Yip Sang took his family outside for a photo. Perhaps he was celebrating his company’s expansion. Or his 61st birthday. Now this historic complex houses Canada’s national Chinese Canadian Museum. I like to joke the museum’s at our house.

And you should drop by.

This 100 year old C.I. 45 record made me a genealogist. Understanding my dad’s life - the world as he lived it, the laws he survived, the meaning of the word birthright - was my 1st complex family history puzzle.

Took me three decades to solve.
