i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I am on a mission this holiday season to embrace non-aesthetic, non-curated moments. We are not decanting groc store baked goods into a fancy plate. We are mismatching ornaments. We are using whatever wrapping paper. We are putting up the tacky decor that doesn’t coordinate. There is a photo I can’t

yeah why might it be harder for someone to break 50% in a three-way race versus a two-way race. obviously it has something to do with ideology.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

I think people who have never worked in New York media can underestimate how many extremely important decisions are made based on who was nicest and most charming towards the rich person at a party.
NB to the ppl replying “charisma???”: how do you think success happens, especially at this scale, especially for ppl with demonstrably marginal talent? Virtue has very little correlation with personal likeability. Naive verging on dangerous to think “bad politics” means “devoid of all qualities”
Bari is a terrific example of a person who has, perhaps tragically, mistaken her charisma for intelligence

There’s a simple answer. “Democrats won’t vote to fund this regime as is. It’s up to the republicans if they want to shut down the government. They’re in the majority.”
SCHUMER: “I hope and pray Trump will sit down with us.”

BASH: “And if he doesn’t Dems will vote no?”
