Sorry James, this is just not true. I ran comms at HMT and we *never* briefed out a specific measure weeks before a Budget. It’s a recipe for chaos. Most of these stories are educated guesswork or sometimes briefed by other departments trying to influence the Budget decision making process.

The problem is that if you were young in the ‘70s (I was in my teens/early 20s through the ‘70s and working) you didn’t really notice how awful things were. 👀

It makes me laugh when the newspapers tell you the ‘exact’ date 16” (40cm) of snow will arrive. Normally it’s nowhere near where you live. 🤷♂️
