Jonny [background]: (intrigued) Oh. Alex: As in: what should well-written horror fiction accomplish other than scaring people, obviously? Jonny: To me there are almost two sorts of horror. There’s what I think of as, uh, “escapist” horror. Jonny [cont.]: And what I think of as “literary” horror. “Escapist” horror is- it’s very practical in a lot of ways. Uh, it is, uh, a way of… catharsis, uh, it’s a way of, uh, indulging in fear and, uh, spooking yourself out in a controlled, safe way, allowing you to safely indulge in those, uh, slightly darker, uh, emotions and feelings. Which is one of those reasons that, for Magnus, uh, I think it’s so important to take certain, uh, certain boundaries and treat certain subjects with a lot do respect and sensitivity, um, because one of the key things here is you need to be able to trust that you can enjoy the horror. Um, you need to be able to trust the- the writing and the performance that it’s not going to suddenly cross lines and what has previously been a very pleasing spooky catharsis, suddenly becomes, uh, incredibly upsetting. And of course there is the other sort of horror and obviously it’s not- it’s not a binary here, it’s very much um… Alex: It’s more of a spectrum. Jonny [cont.]: It’s very much on a- on a spectrum. Uh, but what I think of more as “literary” horror which is using the… mechanisms of horror, the mechanisms of, um, being spooky, being scary to actually examine and, uh, come to terms with darker subject matters. “Literary” horror is just as thoughtful about how it engages with that sort of thing. And to be honest, I don’t write “literary” horror, I… don’t really feel like I have any place writing “literary” horror most of the- most of the subjects that it tackles and it deals with well are things that I have no real experience of and that I would not be coming from a place where I feel comfortable exploring it. It’s- they’re not often my stories to explore. Alex: Mine is going to be a lot more specific, but I think a lot less profound, let’s say. [Jonny snorts with a small laugh and says “Yeah”] Um, I think that in all fiction you should- I’m going to have to expand on this, you should avoid being intellectually lazy and I think horror more than with any other genre. More than any other type of fiction you must not be intellectually lazy. Now, to be perfectly clear, I’m not talking about, y’know, using big, ​long words or writing in a weird way that no one’s ever seen. When I’m talking about being intellectually lazy, I’m talking about knowing that there’s a better way in doing something and taking the shortcut. It’s stuff like for horror it’s very easy to spot the, uh, the shortcut, because what someone will do is they will write a taboo and then look at the taboo and go (dramatic, fake-OMG) “I broke a taboo! HORROR!” And it’s not. It is a shortcut, because you aren’t putting the work in to really engage with stuff and trying to pick at the bits that are interesting. You are just taking something wholesale and slapping it out there and that for horror, bizarrely, is the thing that encourages people to take that shortcuts most. [Jonny agrees with a “Yeah”] And especially things like body horror, actually that’s the one and most often, yeah, you’re- you’re heading into like horrible, torture porn-kind of sub-genres and stuff and actually, it doesn’t need to be that and it- it’s just about putting the work in and not just taking quick easy low-hanging fruit every time. Jonny: Yeah. When we talk about being intellectually lazy, we are, a hundred percent, not talking about being original. Alex: No! No, no, no, no, no! Jonny: Because… weirdly, horror is actually one of those genres where I feel like you, thinking about it, in terms of originality is actually missing a lot of the point. There’s only so many spooky things that you write! [Alex agrees with a “Yeah”] It’s all to do with the rhythm and the pacing and making sure that you’re getting the- the right beats in the right place to… evoke the- the emotions the- the same way that, y’know, you need to, uh, evoke the right notes from an instrument.

Sailor Kin-mokusei is pure sunset joy in a bottle. Hesitated for years even though I adored the sample bc the bottle is SO small and SO expensive but yeah, though I do also love Diamine Flame for its red shading, nothing compares to the ink that made me love orange. It's a well behaved delight 🥰

It would not smear at all, the best attempt is from a small accidental spill at the bottom of the page. The swab test also has some jagged edges when it reaches three layers. But the text below is fine, very high shading and clear flamelike delineation between orange and red. It contains the pangram "Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow," that it was written with a Platinum Little Meteor in F, and a short review: A cheerful, genuinely flamelike orange. Shades red [drawing of a heart] One of my favourites, but then I do love a good orange. Most importantly, no sickly yellow-green undertone when wet.

Pingtung Clematis is similar to my beloved Troublemaker Foxglove, but darker and bluer and the dual shading is a lot more subtle. Also it's less dry.

Goes down very purple and dries bluer, almost like Robert Oster Summer Storm in reverse. Very legible too. I like it! Need to try in a B nib... A swatch of Troublemaker Foxglove, a dual shading ink that's purple in the middle with a vibrant blue halo on the edges, especially obvious where it pooled at the top of the smear test, the end of the 2-layer swab and all of the 3-layer swab. The text below, all in print, contains the pangram "Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow," that it was written with a Kaweco Sport in B, and a short review: Gorgeous stuff. Midori paper also really brings out the dual shading, holy fuck is it obvious. Violent, even. Does need a fat juicy nib to really shine though.

Treated myself to ink for my birthday (was last week) bc I saw stiloestile has Ink Institute Pingtung Clematis in stock (I waited a YEAR). And finally a full bottle of Sailor Kin-mokusei, the best, most cheerful orange ever 😁

Even after throwing the sample away I still randomly get it on my hands and I have no idea where it's coming from. You have been warned lmao / Nuclear, atomic, a force of nature. This is indeed eternal. I only touched my vial (never sprayed it) and my hand is impregnated. I took two showers, washed my hands a few times, rubbed alcohol...yesterday and today. It's still here, intact, it didn't even fade a little bit. / I sprayed this perfume on Sunday and received many comments on my maple syrup smell all the way through Wednesday. / powerful coffee. Like atomic coffee.... / milkyleafwater: I made the mistake of wearing this to work. / Unfortunately, one spritz made me feel like I was stuck on the inside of an old coffee grinder that had never been cleaned. Reviews: andypatton: I appreciate what Imaginary Authors does in general, but the first version of this is honestly the worst fragrance I've ever smelled in my life. It was unreal. EnergaiaAcht: Christ, it smells like someone let a steak marinate in cat piss for a week. disastersquirrel: I can see where Team Cat Piss is coming from, but I'm not in it. Anonymous: zero sharpness, zero rose, only sugary dog piss. Anonymous: It's cat piss. Major ammonia scent overpowering all of the nuance. Just like cat urine, it has major staying power and can clear a room. So disappointed. This shit is a BOMB and is lingering around the house even after I scrubbed it from my skin. Certainly a commanding presence after all — I'm guessing this will keep unaltered tomcats away from my house for days. Territory claimed. bioluminescent: I tested this on my arm. Every time I wpuld raise my hand to grab something, I ended up getting a whiff and regretted it. It is the smell of rot and decay, and not in an interesting or pleasant way. It is so strong, I believe you could smell it through your screen as I type this. It is nauseating to the point of causing headaches. Main accords: amber, warm spicy, musky, animalic, floral, woody, balsamic, powdery, citrus, yellow floral. low key smells like animal pee but somehow good / smells like a wet animal: foul and rancid / a little too maximalist femme for me now, such that wearing it feels a bit like being in drag / The opening smells like fermented cat piss. That being said, once you pull through the cat piss its a nice resiny warm spiced animalic. / Christmas and pee. Last year our male cat marked our christmas tree and...yeah Civet brought back memories. / There's a strong lingering pickle type smell, very fermented and dense / To hell with office-friendly. I'm stocking up on this bad boy and wearing it everywhere until the day I die. And even when I die, my wish is that all the guests at my funeral spritz themselves with Civet outside the church. I was expecting to be knocked in the face with a weird animal-butt scent but I was knocked in the face with an old happy scent memory, and honestly by how pretty this is / My cat just peed on the carpet. No, that's not what Civet smells like—it's actually quite lovely. Leather and citrus and peppery carnations, smoke and it's so LUSH. But when I dabbed it on my wrist my cat freaked out, frantically pawed at my sleeve and then took a stress squirt on the rug. Secretions Magnifiques by Etat Libre d'Orange. Unisex. Rectangular bottle with a round, target-like label. Main accords: marine, lactonic, aquatic, aromatic, coconut, sweet, iris, woody, powdery, amber. Reviews: Anonymous: This is dirty period blood with a hint of nervous sweat. Anonymous: reminded me of a highway gas station toilet that hasn't been cleaned in a while. cowboyfuel: Wow, this sure is something! I don't know what I expected, but I am quite impressed. It *does* indeed smell like bloody semen and rusty pennies. I kept gagging and had to wash it off. I fear people that wear this every day. marioslg3: I particularly like animalic and dirty fragrances but this is a scary indeed. Anonymous: But then I sprayed it on my skin and let it sit for a few hours. Jesus fuck. Anonymous: For those of you wondering if this straight up smells like sex, the answer is not really. It certainly is a perfume and that is obvious when you smell it. It even has some notes I would say are very pleasant, but there is something so deeply wrong with this fragrance that I just can't call it anything other than cursed. Like it was brewed by a witch in the Mariana Trench or something. It feels evil. It smells like static electricity, salty brine and iris with a heavy emphasis on the static electricity. I didn't know it at the time but a couple yeaes ago I rode the bus with a woman who would wear this and it was so repulsive I would actively avoid sitting close to her. Little did I know it was a choice to smell this way and I didn't know what the choice was until I smelled my sample of Secretions Magnifiques and it all clicked. To each their own I guess. Hawaii Jake: I'm gay, and I'm mature. Anonymous: There is a distinguished rancidness in there. OTA Mom: Utterly nasty. In no way ever would I want to go out in public projecting this fragrance. Reviews: Anonymous: it will literally nuke your surroundings with maple syrup. Anonymous: Would be a love if it didn't attempt to murder my friends and I every time I wear it. Anonymous: I thought people were bullshitting the staying power a little bit, but if anything it actually lasts way longer. Anonymous: Too biblical, performance wise. Anonymous: Wore this to a tattoo shop, my artist said that it smelled like pancakes, sweet, and like someone was vaping in there. I confessed that it was my cologne and I only had two sprays on (mind you this is a big place compared to other tattoo shops I've been to) and they even had to open the doors Anonymous: absolutely unkillable. bdragonfly12345: I wore this to work today and people can genuinely smell me from down the hallway! Yikes!! Anonymous: I accidentally used 3 sprays of this because I forgot I already did 2, and I was told that the entire road OUTSIDE reeked of this after I passed it, and the scent was leaking through my open window into the outside lol (it was not a good compliment, I was told it was a choking hazard esentially) Anonymous: I ordered a sample of this along with three other things, so in all, four 1.5 ml spray vials were shipped over in one of those little plastic ziplock gram pouches. When I broke the seal, this scent blasted out and filled the room (not a trace of any of the others), and I immediately moved the other three vials to a different location cuz this fella's definitely getting his own place to live. Screenshots from reviews: I once saw somebody describe this as the smell of poseidons nunu and now its all i can think about / honestly just pisses me off / the actual scent doesn't seem that bad however the strength is basically nuclear and wearing it made me feel like i was showing a disregard for the well being of my fellow man / this fragrance stinks it smells like my butt when i don't wipe whoever says this smells good count your days bc i'm coming for you / people started commenting how bad the room smelled / Just 1 spray on the chest and 3 hours in a colleague 6 ft away compliments me. / It smells like salty sweat navy men. Which I don't find that bad / does not actually disclose what's inside of it. If you expect compliments or anyone to like it, get ready to be disappointed. / I wore this to a meeting and somebody asked: "who smells like poison!?" never wore it to a meeting ever again. / And when it comes to performance, go easy on this bad boy, it's nuclear. And said "It smells like someone cooked and ate another human being." nzjinjp: This smells absolutely foul, burnt leather with burnt plastic. I would not wear it even if I was paid to. Chanel de Lanvin: This perfume absolutely does not smell like burnt leather with burnt plastic. Simply that your nose is not prepared for this type of perfume. AnnaMagenta: I feel like I've just smelt the beast. Anonymous: Brutal. Ominous. Offensive, even. Spray with caution. Anonymous: this is such a fucking t-rex smell. Aromazeal: Carbon buildup on the grill grates. Anonymous: 2 sprays will fill a massive room and have people choking. On the flip side, it is quite fun to carry a sample and spray it into random rooms. The reaction is always confused disgust.

Two sizes of seed beads in antique bronze are used for spacing. There's no clasp or anything yet, just a length of gold thread poking out of each end.

I'm so tired of bead issues 😭

Went to re-string the ace bracelet cos I fucked up the 1st and 3rd flower and it was bothering me too much, then this happened while I was taking apart the purple. (Other colours, are perfectly fine!)

So now I need to hunt down a non-metallic purple somehow...
Two hole purple beads with their coating peeling off, revealing the white base. There are also some normal little bronze beads scattered around.
