all genres have conventions, but genre is also used as a sales & marketing tactic. your job as a reader (or listener) is to think about which conventions someone is borrowing from and why

we don't have to get into all that again...just noticing the cultural / political bs of it all because of who holds power. feels extremely obvious in this context.

Employers benefit again when they don't re-hire people with benefits, but load up on an army of contract workers. We have entered a really vicious labor cycle, and I can't help but see how the Senate is continuing to enable it.

They can overhire, mismanage resources, and then lay off huge numbers of workers in order to put money in the pockets of executives—and the thing that helps people who are victim to these bad practices is the ACA.

I've been thinking about this more now, not just because the ACA is yet again at risk, but because the labor market is worse. Employers are creating more self-employed people and contract workers because of their own priorities to pursue capital at all costs.

I've made more money and had more freedom over the past decade than I ever thought was possible, especially starting out as an underpaid graduate student and nonprofit employee.

i don't think you come back from that. the political elite may think everyday people are stupid, but they are not. make this miscalculation at your own peril.
