I consider myself a lefty even by Nordic standards and have been called a communist often enough by the far right loons. Because I do maintain that billionaires are system errors and we need to redistribute resources fairly if we want to have a future worth having.

Yeah. That is a great definition of true patriotism: a desire to better your own country, your community.
Understanding its real history and problems, and being sharply critical of them so they can be corrected, is of course a crucial ingredient.
But it is wise to recognize the successes too.

Fully agree. As I think myself (with maybe some justification) a Finnish patriot, even a nationalist, I thoroughly detest the far right and their distorted and perverted abomination of ideology that they - I suspect - wield as an excuse for their hate and selfish greed.

When we distinguish between civic and ethnic nationalism, I think we are being too kind to ethnic nationalists.
They have a habit of being highly corrupt, fundamentally destructive people with little interest in the culture & history of their own country. They're not nationalists in the same way.

I think there is an element of every far right movement that genuinely loathes its own country. That it is in Finnish hands promoting Finnish culture is something that revolts them because they are digusted by what Finland is compared to whatever nightmare of perpetual violence and misery they wish.

Aside from this and many other examples, it just boggles my mind that anyone could think that opposing the EU refugee burden sharing scheme is good strategy for a country that has some 1290 kilometers of EU’s external border… and that border can be crossed on foot.

Minua kuvaus tapahtumista huolestuttaa entisestään. VM on tehnyt erittäin merkittävästi julkista taloutta heikentävän esityksen, vaikka sen kasvuvaikutuksista ei ole ollut juuri mitään uskottavaa näyttöä. Tästäkään huolimatta VM:n asemaa ei kyseenalaisteta millään tavalla. 6/6
