I think it's like you said - it works if a team ends a game scoring consecutive points. But even, it would be funny to say a football team closed things out by scoring 21 unanswered points, of which only 3 were truly answerable.

Come to think of it, in basketball every made field goal has at least one unanswered point.

Man, it gets into some awkward language at a certain point, especially in hoops.

"The team scored 14 unanswered points before their 15th point, which was the concluding point of a three-point basket, was finally met with an answer."

It's a question of upside:

What's the upside in arguing with people online about anything, really? Conversely, the upside in any number of other activities - going outside, running or walking, listening to music, cleaning, cooking, reading non-arguments online - is so high that the decision is easy
