I've been to Blackpool once and was not impressed. But my mother's generation loved it. She had fond memories of a week spent there with friends and dancing at The Tower Ballroom. On the other hand I've a friend who lives there and loves it!

Blackpool and the Tower Ballroom are 2 different things. I think for a dancer going to the ballroom would be quite exciting. People have been dancing there for a 130 years!

She's a traitor!

I'm going to have to leave our discussion now, real life is intruding. I've enjoyed the debate.

cost of capital or a normal, risk-adjusted return on investment. There isn't a single percentage level for excess profit, as it depends on factors like the industry and market conditions. 2/2 water companies, energy companies, transport all increasing the cost of living

Here's a good definition
Excess profit is
the profit a firm makes above its normal profit, which is the minimum amount needed to keep it in business. It is considered the return over and above the opportunity 1/2

The focus has to be on taxing the richest. Taxing excessive profits not attacking the most vulnerable. Anything else and they may as well rename themselves the new Tory party. Because they're not supporting or helping anyone but the rich.

Do you know that PIP isn't an in work benefit? Do some research and learn what the charities for the disabled think. Let alone the few true Labour MPs left think
November 10, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Well, it's not working! The poor are getting poorer. A pity they don't look to true socialist principles rather than pandering to the extreme right wing. They're more right-wing than Thatcher!
November 10, 2025 at 2:17 PM
Did I mention pensioners? Though we have one of the lowest in .Europe. PIP reforms are terrorising the disabled and will directly cause deaths. They're not forcing their best buddies to employ disabled people with chronic illness who cannot offer regular availability!
November 10, 2025 at 2:14 PM
A pity they're looking to make life worse for the sick, disabled and poor first rather than the super rich

LOL Bland not blind! I'm the one with bad eyesight, waiting for surgery.
November 8, 2025 at 6:24 PM
Ooh I'll try those!

I usually buy my favourite good quality sausages and take the skins off, rather than the often blind and tasteless sausagemeat sold by supermarkets

It must be hard for you both, you being so far away x I hope he recovers soon

My father was awarded an MC in WW2. He contributed to the BL but only rarely wore a poppy. My mother often wore a white poppy.

Oddly, I was hit by a firework when I was a child. I ended up in A and E, but it didn't put me off. Crossing the road, swimming, barbecues, using buses and trains all carry risks! We mitigate the risks and use them all. Used properly, fireworks are no more dangerous than a barbecue in your garden.
November 5, 2025 at 7:15 PM
What about silent fireworks? We're lucky our dog likes watching them

It's silly the way the judges have to dress up! It detracts from the importance of their job!

Just checked with a dual citizen American British friend who regularly visits China and Europe with his Chinese wife, and neither he nor his American born family have ever been asked
