The first Highway Post Office trip between Lexington and Fleming, Kentucky on 1 September 1949. As railroad service between small US towns declined, the post office began using buses as a replacement in 1941. https://postalmuseum.si.edu/highway-post-office-service

Tried the new MyHeritage feature on a photo of my maternal grandfather, William Bouldin Hopkins (b.1891, Pendleton Co. WV; d. 1943, Jefferson Co., KY). He has a rather frisky tie.
