Give a man a fish and someone with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about people getting free handouts. Teach a man to fish? Yeah, that person with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about that too.

I'm starting to think that what news consumers think is newsworthy and what reporters think is newsworthy is very different and not in a way that reflects well on reporters.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

i’ve said this before and i remain convinced it’s true, the 2028 platform that would deliver obama 08 results is “i am gonna
bring the hammer down on the corrupt self-dealing politicians and their rich friends and there are no sacred cows id give a pass”

the throughline of the conservative culture war they're waging is simply this: women and children are property.

that's it. everything else is downstream of that

Very disappointing to see the transphobes out in the comments of Julie Kliegman's new article on @defector.com. I know they pay for the right to do so, but the world would be a better place if they would just shut the fuck up.

At the same time, much of the media, the fourth estate, the people whose role in democracy is holding power accountable by informing the public, decided that an old president’s oldness was a bigger scandal than another old president’s connections to and likely participation in child sex trafficking.

I dunno but if you’re feeling defensive about NYT taking heat for decades of feigning ignorance on Epstein, maybe sit in your feels and reflect. Because without any public whipping at all @jkbjournalist.bsky.social went at the story head on and now we’re here.

This is extremely unfair to the Legion of Doom, whose membership has ZERO pedophiles.
It’s darkly amusing that Detective Comics Comics’ Legion of Doom turned out to be a more accurate view of how the world worked than the most sophisticated communist propaganda.

All the Epstein emails are powerful elites saying shit like “Hello my friend the pedophile, i need your advice as a pedophile, what do you think about this other pedophile? Pedophilic Regards, your Friend ;)” and instead of swinging from a gibbet most of them are still writing op-eds against leftism

it is fucking infuriating to think how one different staffing choice, someone like Doug Jones, could have made all the difference in the world

A good number of years ago I had to walk up to Glasnevin cemetery from Phibsborough to attend a funeral. I was wearing all black and I guess the jacket was a tad military-esque. This group of lads see me and start singing "Welcome to the black parade" it genuinely made me laugh.

I just found out that St Brown is the spokesman for a group that wants to overturn the ACA so frankly, Payne should be rewarded, not suspended.

I always enjoyed the old Miss Manners column in the newspaper because every letter was like "Can I use this obscure manners rule to be an asshole?" and Miss Manners saying "No, because being an asshole is bad manners."

This is the same thing but Miss Manners is the Pope.

state of the trad catholic discourse on the other site is debating whether undocumented immigrants should be able to receive the Eucharist if you were wondering how that was going

I don't think we give enough credit to Lady Gaga for dropping an absolute banger of an album this year after doing more or less fuck all for the past decade (and sorry, the Star is Born song sucks).

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Just went down a rabbit hole on Pro Football Reference to see if any other player had thrown TD passes to multiple accused murderers other than Tom Brady, who's now at 2 or 3 depending on if you count manslaughter too.

Answer is "kinda" - Dave Krieg had two, one's conviction was overturned.
