Active Earth, Faults, Earthquakes! Tectonics & Surface Processes, Tectonic Geomorphology, Geochronology. Retired Surfer. Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow, She/her
🚨I am very honored to announce that I’m starting as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at the University of Lisbon, funded by the European Commission 🚨. I am grateful to NCSU where I honed my skills in Quaternary Geochronology and all my USA colleagues who I work with in Earthquake Geology. ☺️🌍

Apparently surface rupture during the Myanmar 2025. I'm very surprised by the weak shaking along the rupture. I'm not sure if this is the main rupture (I would say no - nonetheless, VERY COOL). Author unknown, location Thazi (to be confirmed)

A small correction, the Sparta earthquake was not in the southern Appalachian zone, was just south of the Giles Seismic Zone (south Virginia) see image from Neves et al., 2024

Not attending #EGU25 but I'm a co-author in a few abstracts. I highlight this poster presented by PhD candidate Dennis Wolf.
Check it out Friday, 2 May in the morning Hall X2 | X2.52. He is doing a great work!
(Next year, I will be at EGU, I promise!)

Another video from the Myanmar Mw 7.7 quake. Now we see the railway tracks (Pyinmana, Myanmar) bent and severely deformed.

Absolutely amazing video. Direct displacement of a drainage/channel: it is possible to see a right lateral displacement of the thalweg of about 1.5 to 2 m. It is also possible to see the fault plane exposed!

Regarding the Mw 7.7 Myanmar earthquake: to be confirmed, but it seems the segment that ruptured was at least partially a "seismic gap". The 1st image is figure 1 from Xiong et al 2017 doi.org/10.1002/2017... and the 2nd image is from Hurukawa & Maung 2011 doi.org/10.1029/2010...

In my case, it should be: “how is this quartz-rich??? There is cleavage!!! How do they expect me to extract 10Be from this piece of &$&@?!?” And then thinking about hitting them saying “sampling MATTERS! Learn your f$& mineralogy and petrology!” There! Stop complaining about geochronology!

Surface ruptures were already identified from the Mw 7.1 Xizang Southern Tibetan earthquake. Scarps up to 3 m. See link in Chinese but with photos mp.weixin.qq.com/s/qtB9yU9E6T...

This is the question I get the most during this season "How is Thanksgiving celebrated in your country?" We don't!!
Inherited from pagan celebrations, Europeans celebrate the Harvest season, at the end of the harvest season, in late September. That's what we are thankful for.
