2/ since 1973 but often they've reflected a variety of demographic groups and symbolized our country's rich diversity of culture, ethnicity, and race.

More pointedly, since 1776, in both war and peace, over 41 million have served in our military with nearly 1.2 million the casualties of war...

1/ A little less than 1% of our fellow Americans currently serve as active-duty members of the U.S. military. Currently, approximately 16 million can identify as veterans i.e. a little more than 6% of our nation's population. Trends in military service can fluctuate as ours is an all-volunteer force

Remember when an image such as this could end political careers and effectively alter a government policy? Our entire nation had felt shame...

I've so exhausted every obscenity I can possibly muster on this corrupt, ignorant, piece-of-shit wannabe dictator that it is now done by rote... What he has done to our house, the People's House, almost feels like a knife to the heart. And his attack on democracy is utterly soul-shredding...

1/ Anticipating a big fire in the belly of the beast this Monday night. Obviously, my Lions versus the Chiefs was always going to be a monster of a challenge and all that bullshit attached to the Montgomery-to-Goff TD and those 2-3 plays and penalties that cost us field and downs might have made

Played hooky this past Monday so I could spend a little bit of it at Detroit's Hart Plaza for an Indigenous Peoples' Day Pow Wow. A nice turnout for an event that hadn't been staged downtown in thirty years. Well spent... Every so often you owe yourself such a day.

1/ The moron to the pipsqueak's right is my congressperson. A MAGA-mouth. Every claim she's made to having voted for something that helped our congressional district is something she'd actually voted against or voted to undo. Each day it's a pretense she's working hard on behalf of her constituency.

1/ The way I currently view our Lions: Game 1 a wakeup call as they should have intuited that game better than they had. A depressing outcome, really. Game 2 not only a "get right" game, but an opportunity to exorcise the Ben Johnson hangover. His departure was like an albatross and a good thing it

Joan Jett had her birthday yesterday. A young 67... Crushed on Joan when she was with The Runaways and maintained that crush for decades. Cool and influential af, an iconic rocker... And rarely and grudgingly do I call anyone "iconic"...

Jeremiah Johnson isn't just my favorite Robert Redford film... It is one of my all-time faves... Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men, Brubaker, The Candidate, Sneakers, An Unfinished Life are easy "likes", too... More, I very much respected his political opinions and insights.

Each remembrance, I am left feeling the memory of 9/11 has dimmed for far too many.

It must never be forgotten.

I am alternately feeling confident and anxious.

Yep. My Lions' regular season is here.

The NFC North will be f-n bedlam. All four teams have both players whose playmaking can leave you breathless and game disruptors intent on ruining your day.

It's on. LET'S GO LIONS!

The profound harm, tragic dysfunctions, and staggering incompetence of TFG and his bootlicking sycophants will be a chaotic mess from which it will take a full generation to recover and set aright when (and if) we return to being an intelligent, empathetic society and world-leading democracy.

1/ Well, I knew already how challenging this season would be for my Lions... I believe. Hell, yeah, I believe... But I also know our NFC North division rivals are going to be salaciously good teams. Both the Vikings and the Packers are well-coached with some outstanding talent on their rosters and

2/ to have seen more offensive scores, defensive takeaways, and better W-L outcomes, but reps and film are more important and finding fits, positional, cultural, and attitudinal, are going to help us go the distance. The deeper our run, the better. Playoffs, man...

1/ Somewhat an inconsistent preseason for my Lions. I see flashes of the team they could be, need to be, but I also recognize we're evaluating what will become our 53 man roster (plus 16 on the practice squad - 17 should a player be a member of the International Pathway Program). I would have liked

The heights of reprehensibility here are unscalable. A brutal piece-of-shit and a corrupt, ignorant ass, power mad wannabe cuttin' it up like a couple fraternity bros... TFG is a Putin asset no matter how or which way you slice it. America better get it's shit together. #DefendDemocracy

Because many of his MAGA minions are the same... Loudmouthed chest beaters with all the backbone of mayonnaise... I tell family and friends who'd voted for him , you can instinctively tell, in his entire life, he's never taken or thrown a punch. He's all whine - never earned the bloodied knuckles...

TFG, Vance, Musk, Greene, Gosar, Bannon, Stone, Flynn, Carlson, Kirk... All Putin assets... Useful idiots... Unwitting dupes... Moronic tools... Anything that should come from any meeting between TFG and Vlad vis-a-vis Ukraine should instinctively be dismissed as it'd be suspect af...

1/ For me, Canada is just across the river. Pre-pandemic I used to cross the bridge 2-6 times a month. As a kid and a teen I grew up alongside Canadian culture and I was privy to it's history and it's politics. I continue to watch and listen to Canadian content so I kinda' have the gist (e.g. I can

1/ I don't understand some so-called "fans"... Morice Norris goes down hard and ugly. It's life-threatening. Ennis Rakestraw sustains a season-ending injury. Levi Onwuzurike and Dan Jackson are on IR, too. Its a highly aggressive sports competition where bodies are literally hurtling at scary speeds

Attended this past Lions' Monday evening practice. Extremely well attended. Had a great view. Very physical and as a whole, efficient. Lots of Red Zone looks and some tough scrimmaging. I have impressions, but I'm not sure what really has traction during preseason.

Shared a great catchup conversation over an excellent dinner with friends who'd made a brief stay in Iceland on their way home from a week in Scotland visiting their middle child (working on her master's degree at the University of Edinburgh).

Haven't yet been to Scotland.

But Iceland I have.

When I'm feeling a bit lost or a little beat up, The Blues (and its variants) recenters me... For the soul, its wonders are incalculable.
