#GPFigure When I was posting earlier, I was on my phone. I should have been adding the #Rinkside tag but doing lots of tags is a PITA on mobile. My apologies!

#GenHour fold3 also kept their legacy content from before they rebranded as a military site, so they have some directories as well.

#GenHour NewspaperArchive doesn't always have the best image quality but they have the best clipper of all the sites I've used.

#GenHour I have lots of mixed feelings about MyHeritage but I have to say the tools for the City Directory collection were mostly well thought-out. Check Legacy Family Tree Webinars for how-to videos (AFAIK the MH webinars are free) as well as the MH blog, etc.

#GenHour /3 MyHeritage Library Edition is also on the list of resources available to use in the library.

If you are interested in any of their resources but aren't sure if you want an individual sub, trying them out via SCGS is a great deal.

#GenHour I am a member of SCCS and they offer remote access to MyHeritage Library Edition. It's a much cheaper way to get access to MyHeritage's stuff than buying MH's data sub! (You won't have newspaper access with the LE but MH has spun that off into a separate site anyway.) /1

#GenHour Back in the day, I saw a great website with a history of the Price & Lee directories, but I don't think it's up anymore. If I can find the URL, I'll check the Wayback Machine.

Maybe Brooklyn Public Library could tell you? Historical newspapers there might have display ads.

#GenHour Murphy's Law is that the putting-to-bed time of the directories or the publication dates are always such that my husband's family gets missed out. 😜
November 13, 2025 at 9:16 PM
#GenHour Check with your local gen society and libraries to see if they have MyHeritage. The City Directory collection there has some useful tools and will aggregate results. You might find some missing years that way.

(I'm assuming you used browse at Ancestry because their index is crap.)

#GenHour Online streams are geo-located, so our friends in the UK will have to use a VPN. Eventually it may be airing on PBS America?

#GenHour Heaviest rain was before 10 am. It has tapered off now.

Good luck with the storm! Mudslides are a pain.

#GenHour It's very frustrating!

#GenHour I haven't browsed the Directories at NYPL in a while, but if they haven't changed the interface, there are some pointers in this old Q at Genealogy SE. Internet Archive and FamilySearch might have directories, too.

#GenHour At the lower price, there's definitely a cost-effectiveness in ordering the wills from the probate search because it's quicker than locating the wills on the microfilm at an FHC or AL, and my transit costs to my local society are relatively higher. Once the price goes up, that changes.
November 13, 2025 at 8:28 PM
#GenHour The big difference between getting the wills from the Probate Search service & FamilySearch is that the wills at FamilySearch are copy book wills. So we may not be able to get any information in the grant page that didn't make it into the calendar, or handwritten marginal notes on the will.
