Why did it take several days for Trump’s “Quiet, Piggy” insult of a female reporter to gain traction in news coverage? Because it happened on a Friday night, when many journalists had started their weekend. And because, sadly, he's trained the media to think accepting his insults is part of the job.

The White House Intervened on Behalf of Accused Sex Trafficker Andrew Tate During a Federal Investigation
Federal authorities were chided for seizing electronic devices from Tate and his brother, and told to return them, records and interviews show. Experts said the intervention was highly inappropriate.

study after study after study shows that literally just handing people money and telling them "do what you want with this" reduces homelessness, increases food security for children, makes it more likely people will find and retain jobs.1

This is exactly the same argument — and, in parts, even the same language — that segregationists advanced to argue that white people had a “right” not to live next to people who were different from them.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

SNAP benefits have amounted to about 1.5% of the federal budget. The fraud rate is under 1%.

42 million Americans, many of them elderly and disabled, depend on this food assistance through no fault of their own.

16 million are children.

It's not the same point, but the argument that the Biden admin had "porous policies" is completely false. They had a number of very harsh policies aiming to limit migration, the problem was state capacity to carry them out and the sheer force of the push/pull factors during the post-COVID years.

Churches, charities & family are not a substitute for SNAP

They can help but they’re not accessible to everyone

They can’t scale up to support an influx of 42 million people

The government could easily fund SNAP, they’re choosing not to

They’re choosing to let people starve

That’s $500 million lost per day
Every $1 invested in SNAP generates $1.80 in local economic activity. Without SNAP, that will mean a loss of $15 billion to the US economy just in November alone.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employed—but in jobs that pay poverty wages
