I am different. That’s not less, just different. And that’s enough. #Autistic

Trying to make sense of a world that never made sense of me. #Neurodivergent

One of the best things about being on Bluesky is realising I’m not on my own.
So many of us grew up thinking our struggles were “just us,” only to learn that our stories overlap more than we ever imagined. 1/3
The right wing culture war is in full swing. Neurodivergent people are in their reactionary crosshairs.

"explosion" in children with additional support needs. 😡

Aye i was an explosion that happened in the 1970s and 1980s!

We were abandoned and flushed down the f**king toilet!

There is no "explosion" there are and always have been kids who need help.

People often say “I was taught this” or “I learned that growing up.” For me, that never really applied. 1/5

I’ve struggled with overeating and weight gain my whole life, and I’ve noticed the same pattern in other autistic people, including in my own neurodivergent family. 1/5

There’s still a part of me that wants to run when life gets too much. That instinct is old and deep. For most of my life, running was how I survived. 1/3

Meltdown recovery isn’t quick. A meltdown isn’t losing your temper; it’s a full neurological overload where the brain goes straight into fight or flight and everything shuts down. It takes a huge amount of energy, and the recovery can last hours, days, or even a week. 1/5

Sorry but F**k Off!

I'll be watching Scotland play and that's all. World Cup has been turned into a political propaganda performative piss take.

Answer:

My logical brain. I used to see it as a flaw because I think in such black and white terms. For example: there’s no such thing as “autistic traits” that only autistic people have, they’re human traits that we just have more of. If there were traits only we had, diagnosis would be easy! 1/2

Autism and ADHD are not mental illnesses.

Many of us face mental health issues because of the failure to diagnose and lack of support.

We want to work, we want to thrive but forcing us to be who we are not, wont do anything other than damage our mental health. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Public autistic meltdowns are brutal. They feel sudden, but they’re usually the result of days or weeks of stress building up. By the time it happens, you’re already running on fumes, tired, overloaded, and stretched too far. It only takes one tiny trigger for everything to spill over. 1/3

Today I had a public meltdown. I’ve gone through every emotion since. When you live with constant anxiety, you’re always one sharp moment away from tipping over. There’s no recovery, you just get back on your feet and keep going. Life is hard when you are different.

Nothing sustainable grows from rage. Rage burns fast and leaves ashes.

Why does the left keep losing to the right.
The right is simply better at hate, confrontation, and conflict driven politics. It feeds them. It energises them. It unites them. 1/5

I keep wondering about the outcomes of all this. If a political culture prefers confrontation above everything else, where does it actually lead? It feels like anger creates more anger, until it becomes a permanent war with no end. 1/5

I want to be clear about something.

Sharing my story isn’t meant to take anything away from autistic people who face far greater day to day challenges than I do. Many have support needs I’ve never had to navigate, and their struggles deserve recognition and respect. 1/3

The younger generation has every right to shape the political landscape now, and they will, whether the old guard approves or not.

There comes a point when the struggle isn’t ours to lead anymore.

Time to step back and wish the next generation good luck.
It’s your world to win now.

One thing that’s rarely talked about is how hard digital conversations can be for autistic people. Messages, emails, DMs, all of them. They’re full of ambiguity, missing structure, and no clear ending. 1/5
