Sadly this is not that unusual. I've been involved in education since the 1990s, I've seen questions that ask you to prove something that isn't provable, one that assumes something that you are told explicitly in the syllabus you shouldn't assume. It's a long list.

There is an English Language A level - though it's pretty obscure. (Incidentally we have the same A levels).
