UK-based photographer, mostly specialising in the sky/space, here to share the beauty in all our skies!

Follow for pretty pictures, interesting facts about the skies & weather, and maybe the occasional silly conspiracy debunking along the way!
One can hope that in an era of increased radar data availability, automated alert systems & improved forecasting/warning we would be able to warn people in advance now, but equally the cynicism towards warnings & the media's tendency to downplay tornadoes here make you wonder if anyone would care :(

I'm not sure if that was true 'mini supercell' rotation, and if it was it only lasted for ~10-15 minutes at the most (this timelapse being about 5 minutes) from my viewpoint, but maybe the vorticity in the air which had produced funnels elsewhere gave it a little kick?

Not sure

Just maybe not for another 30+ years... hopefully

Given the awful fires & excess deaths seen at 40c (not to mention it was, quite simply, really uncomfortable), I don't even want to imagine what a 46c heatwave would do in this unprepared country.

Though given how fast we've been breaking records lately, I wouldn't be shocked to see it happen

Hope you get a good view of the show!

Probably good dust-devil conditions when we get an especially thermic day

I've just realised how red-tinted this picture looks on PC lol, trust me it looked better on my phone! 😂

This is why colourspaces are important in photography (and why it's such a pain trying to make an image look nice on multiple devices!)

I'm not usually a fan of restricting the press but as a country we desperately need a law to force open & honest declaration of where these muppets are getting their weather claims from, and which can hold them accountable for misrepresentation.

I'm still waiting for my first thunderstorm this year! It's quite rare in my experience to not get one before May, but sadly it happens.

Tomorrow could have potential though? At least some models think so. GFS? Sure. ICON? Not so much. I hope GFS is right!

In more exceptional displays such as this one from 2022 (which is also my pfp!), it can appear as a shimmering, beautifully bluish-white ring around the entire sky, at the same altitude as the Sun.

But given their rarity, I'm happy to have seen it at all. I haven't seen one for a year!
