I grew up on Lake Superior. I was probably too young to remember this news at the time but it was definitely news every year since. There is a mangled life boat in a museum that tells a scary story.

We adore the original with the Universal monsters. We watched the 1931 Mummy last night. The latter versions have been hit or miss for me. I want to try this one out for the theme too.
