We are reinventing slave patrols
New from 404 Media: a contractor is paying random people $300 to physically track immigrants for ICE. Spoke to people briefed on plans. This isn't licensed PIs/bounty hunters. These are just former police/military; members of public

“The more I listened to it, the more I’m like, something doesn’t sound right,” a person who was briefed on the pilot plans told 404 Media.

Excellent thread on the truth that unions have a long history of multiethnic coalition. JD Vance continues to be full of shit and diversity makes us stronger.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

This exactly how Black folks feel about the Confederate flag
If some group had tried to murder YOUR grandparents, would you be cool with someone having a tattoo of their logo? Would you accept that it was a "youthful mistake" or that they just didn't understand it? Would you let it slide bc you don't want to "alienate" people who don't think it's a big deal?

folks can complain about the effectiveness of scheduled orderly mass protest but to think about it another way its the closest thing we have to the opening scene of A Muppet Christmas Carol where all the muppets sing "there goes Mr. Dipshit, there goes Mr. Ass" to Scrooge and it clearly bothered him

Finally got a record player for my house, so here’s the lunchtime listening today- from a haul I got six years ago when an archivist was clearing out their LP excess.

No.

Our mask requirement is not "virtue signalling".

It's protecting a) the cancer patient and b) the child who is still too small to wear a mask.

And also--and I can't emphasize this strongly enough--you.

My immediate family and I remain Covid-aware. We were going to drive to the other side of the state to visit family for thanksgiving and asked that everyone there just test for Covid before coming to dinner (with tests provided by us). Cousin said they would not attend if testing was required

NEW: In May, a Texas police department said they used the powerful Flock surveillance network against a woman who had an abortion "for her safety"

Newly obtained court records show it was a 'death investigation,' and they considered charging her with a crime

Court records show that the narrative Flock and a Texas Sheriff's Office has told the public isn't the whole story, and that police were conducting a 'death investigation' into the abortion.

Some people here love to dismiss ‘sportsball’ but S. African teams being banned from international competition was an important factor in ending Apartheid because it made their crimes real for non-political folk.
It appears that there is an increasingly high chance Israel will be banned next week from UEFA due to its genocide in Gaza, which would in turn effectively end its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

I have heard this independently confirmed from another source.

My rep voted no and probably took a lot of risk to do so. Their leadership should not have left them out in the cold like this.
95 democrats, including @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social voted to "honor" the life of charlie kirk, who called for joe biden to be killed and said black women like justice ketanji brown jackson are unqualified affirmative action hires.

shame.

My greatest critique of our systems around COVID was the focus on individuals and not dramatic emergency investment in interior air quality.
We are in fact plagued by this beyond the plague. The way we concentrate ease of transmission is a systemic risk. And it's solvable. Just like clean water.

My family and I have considered a drive to Canada for this purpose should something happen at a federal level to completely remove access to Covid and/or flu vaccines. We would 100% do a 6 hour drive to Chicago.
Doing medical tourism in Chicago to get a covid shot
Illinois is currently exploring the possibility of purchasing Covid-19 vaccines in bulk straight from manufacturers to make sure everyone will still have access.
