🚨 STATEMENT 🚨

Please read our holding statement regarding the status of the End Conversion Practices Bill.

We will release our full response once the Programme for Government has been set out.
OFI is incredibly disappointed at the news that the End Conversion Practices Bill is not part of the PfG These last few weeks have been deeply challenging and distressing for the LGBTQIA+ community and we want to see these harmful practices ended in Scotland, once and for all We’re grateful that the Minister for Equalities, Kaukab Stewart MSP, proactively took the time to meet with us. Giving the Exec the opportunity to ask questions and seek accountability To that end, we will put out our full response statement after the PfG is set out on Tuesday – which will outline our reaction, thoughts and outlook We will continue to hold our SNP government to account and ensure that, should we be re-elected to Government in the next Parliamentary term, a Scottish Bill is ready to publish in Year 1 of the next Scottish Parliament. The Scottish Government must stand in solidarity with our community Yours for Scotland, Equality & Independence, OFI Exec 24-25 SNP’s National Equalities Convener

This World AIDS Day we are so pleased to see our SNP Scottish Government has launched its new Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses Action Plan: 2023-2026. In addition to a welcome focus on sexual wellbeing, the Scottish Government has committed to piloting opt-out HIV testing in A&Es.

Today is Bi Visibility Day!

We are proud of the work our executive committee and members have done on Bi+ inclusion and visibility.

At our conference this spring we passed a motion calling for increased research into the needs of Bi+ people and improved services. You can read it here 👇
Conference notes that the recent census data from England & Wales suggests that nearly half of the LGBTQ+ population identifies as falling under the Bi+ umbrella. Conference acknowledges that, despite this, Bi+ people often feel they are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and one study found that 42% felt they needed to pass as gay or lesbian to access LGBTQ+ services, and that 27% had experienced biphobia in these settings. Conference further acknowledges that the Bi+ community faces considerable stigma from both the straight and larger LGBTQ+ communities, resulting in feelings of isolation, vulnerability, and poor health outcomes. Conference notes that Bi+ people are less likely to be open with their GPs than gay men and lesbians, are three times less likely to be out to their families, and less likely to be out at work, in educational settings, and to friends, fuelling isolation. Conference recognises that there has been progress in government services and recognition for LGBTQ+ people
