I'm just one otter, trying to learn about immigration ethics, and share what I discover. (They/them)

I'm happy to see you so concerned about our access to vaccines, and the ongoing troubles at the CDC. Thank you for staying focused on this.

Imagine if the U.S.(a) legalized all entries that are currently illegal and (b) added an additional one million legal visas available.

After thirty years, we would STILL have a lower foreign-born
percentage of the population than Canada has today.

This Pat Buchanan quote has been living rent-free in my head:

"If one excludes the Indians, and the Spanish who arrived in Florida and New Mexico in the sixteenth century, England's Lost Colony, and Quebec, the first permanent settlements in North America were Jamestown and Plymouth."

Um... yeah.

As someone who advocates for immigration expansionism, it's important to call out bad actors when I see them; targeted lethal violence against ICE officers is unacceptable, and it's my sincere hope that everyone involved in the planning of this attack is captured:

Happy Fourth of July everyone. Let's make a year with more justice and a little peace.

Watching the current administration discover the downsides of trying to deport millions of low-skill workers is like watching a middle-school student read about immigration for the first time.

"Whoa, people... do you realize just how many farm workers there are in the US? It's crazy!"

Watching the current administration start openly considering special work-based sponsorships for undocumented immigrants is like watching someone read their first book about illegal immigration.

'Whoa, guys... do you realize how many fruit pickers work in the United States?'

The recent ICE directive to stop arresting people working service industry jobs is an example of how strong the status quo is, methinks. It's like the current administration is only now realizing how difficult the idea of mass deportations will be.

The visciously restrictionist organization ALIPAC may be going under!

I know it's likely just a exaggeration to attract some yearly donations but... a hopeful sign nonetheless.

@murray.senate.gov I was pleasantly surprised to find out that when I searched for your name, looking for a statement about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, I found your video from last month defending him and recognizing the dire nature of his case. Thank you for being exemplary in this area!

@cantwell.senate.gov
Looking online, I still can't find any statements from you regarding the horrific deportations of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and other migrants to El Salvador. Maybe I missed one from you somewhere?

@cantwell.senate.gov
I've been very moved this past week by the valiant actions of your colleague Senator Van Hollen (@vanhollen.senate.gov) from Maryland, in drawing national attention to the Abrego Garcia case. I hope you'll consider putting a statement of support or solidarity out!

After reading Austin Kocher's excellent article about how the current administration is dramatically increasing its delegation of immigration powers to local police, I was gratified to see that no sheriff's office in my home state has signed on... yet.

Trump is Quietly Building a Deportation Army out of State and Local Agencies
Enrollment in the 287(g) program, which deputizes local police to do federal immigration enforcement, has exploded in recent weeks—but the administration has been surprisingly silent.

Completed my first day of #earthbornerangers!

I tracked down the guy who was supposed to give me biscuits, but he immediately got captured by a monstrous crab-legged living garbage processor, and got so flustered that he decided not to make biscuits today.

Well, then.

Every St. Patrick's Day, I'm reminded how restrictionists will often point to the celebration of Cinco de Mayo and the waving of Mexican flags as proof that American culture is collapsing into nothingness.

And yet today... not a peep. Hmmmm.

In a recent podcast interview, Tom Homan was asked to propose some success metrics. The measurable ones were:
1.) Reduce border crossings to the lowest they’ve been in 45 years.
2.) Bring back Remain in Mexico
3.) Find the “300,000 missing children.”

What's the likelihood of these, I wonder?
March 14, 2025 at 9:18 PM
In his blog post on the topic, @austinkocher.com suggests that the time spent in the U.S. explains why ICE arrests have such a higher rate of convicted criminals. I'm not knocking the logic behind this, but isn't there also a great deal of filtering happening in the way ICE arrests people?

This clip speedruns restrictionist assumptions I hear alot, namely...

1) There is only one ('dominant') culture in the United States.

2) This culture is the same culture as that of the Founding Fathers.

3) It is absolutely vital that this culture never change.
