That's a wrap on #PMENA 47 at Penn State. I had a great time, and many invigorating conversations.

I love cranberry cocktail on the flight home. My drink of choice up in the air.

I'm presenting at the top of the hour in room 107. What can anti-conspiracy theory research tell us about teaching mathematical reasoning?

#PMENA Monday Plenary

Shraddha Shirude talks about all the threads running through her work as a math educator, and she also says that sometimes, as a teacher, she is only hanging on by a thread.

#PMENA Opening Plenary

@bwozolek.bsky.social and Peter Appelbaum spoke about some harms caused by school math but also pointed out that many math educators trying to address the inequities are only succeeding in making themselves feel good about their efforts. It's actually reinforcing the problem.

#PMENA is about to get underway in the beautiful autumn setting of mid-Pennsylvania.

Our first session is on teacher circulation at 8:00am.

Our new book on incremental PD in #MathEd is available. The PDF version is free but the hardcover is oh-so-nice!

#LitMath25 is underway. I'm seated with NCTM president Latrenda Knighten (!!) and Mizzou alumna Christina Lincoln-Moore is presenting on connections between students' communities and their math learning.

I wrote the Missing Letters alphabet book. You can also do the #MissingLetters movie game.

For example...

I feel like this could be the basis for a pretty good slope lesson. #MathEd #MathTeaching

Maybe start by asking students to estimate the slope of the road (as displayed in the photo, not in real life) on the left and the right.

Then impose a grid overtop and calculate the actual slopes (equal!).

Authors, if you see this, it's a sign to post the first line of your book.

"Each letter is important. A is important because without a, acorn becomes corn."

If you liked Sonic 1 or 2 at all, you will love #Sonic3. Best of the three! The boys loved it and our theater crowd was very engaged and jubilant at the end.

Happy to be representing Mizzou #MathEd at the #MoCTM conference.

We have online grad degrees (MEd, EdSp, EdD) and an excellent on-campus PhD program. mizzoumathed.org

I'm still very proud of our book about the mathematical practices. And I also have a chapter in Modern Math Tasks where I write with some teachers about how math teaching can help stop the spread of conspiracy theories.
