My great uncle Private Abraham Dufresne, of Le Regiment de la Chaudière, was killed on June 6, 1944. He was 23 years old.

Saying fighting to help the Nazis is bad is apparently "sentimentalist lalaland politics".

The Cold War really destroyed some people's brains.

This comment is about the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician).

You can’t separate the Holocaust from any understanding of World War 2. Those who do are really saying something very bad.

This is a new one to me. Passing on a video because they don't understand how to use a calendar.

#OTD in 1939, Canada declared war on Germany. Canada did not declare war on Sept 3 like Britain and France as a show of independence from Britain. PM Mackenzie King claimed the delay was for a Parliamentary vote on the declaration but this position has largely been dismissed by historians.

Thank you to whoever to donated $100!

And either Guy Simonds is donating from beyond the grave or someone is trying to get a rise out of me! 😂

Either way I'll take it!

After the war, he returned to the diplomatic service and served for many more years. He died in 1971.

Despite years of military and diplomatic service, he is mostly remembered for one mistake. He deserves better.

After WW1, he entered the diplomatic service as trade commissioner working in Shanghai and Australia. He was recalled to service in WW2 and served as the Canadian Military Attaché to Australia. He was chosen to sign the surrender on behalf of Canada due to his, relative, proximity of the ceremony.

He lost sight in his left eye after his retina was detached in a boxing match in 1911. His friend John McCrae, yes the very same who was a doctor, signed off on his enlistment, hence why he was allowed to join with such an injury.

He was twice awarded the Distinguished Service Order in WW1.

In the photo above, Lawrence Moore Cosgrave signed for Canada. Infamously, although that feels like too strong a word, he signed on the wrong line on the Japanese copy.

Cosgrave was called a drunk and an idiot for this one mistake despite being a highly decorated soldier and seasoned diplomat.
