I'm part of the climate anxiety generation, but I found hope in science.

Championing science has resulted in me being attacked by the left for defending the science on nuclear energy, & the right for defending climate science.

Science, not dogma, will lead to a better future.

In response, Ketan has singled me out in this piece + on social media as a “evidence-free bro” trying to create a "Fukushima moment" for RE.

I likely partly motivated him to write this piece calling attention to the lack of discussion of Spanish nuclear’s shortcomings.

BTI bros weigh in on whether or not you can draw conclusions about the Spain blackout before we know anything about why it happened, and it's a shocking 'yes'

You'd think nuke advocates would have some self-awareness about evidence-free blame around energy technologies, but nope, nothin, not a bit

Ketan mocks the inertia chatter re: the Spain outage while misunderstanding inertia.

Inertia doesn’t scale with generation output but rather with spinning generator mass. Spain had 4 reactors online, 2 at 70% power, providing inertia equivalent to 4 reactors at full power! More thoughts below.🧵
One week on from Spain's blackout - and media outlets can talk about is solar power. So I decided to look into Spain's nuclear fleet, and discovered that in April, it was operating at its lowest levels in ten years

Why? Here's a hefty piece digging into that, for you:

I should have come up with this analogy way earlier to explain why a future clean energy system will likely use a mix of both cheaper (solar, batteries, wind) and pricier (nuclear, geothermal, hydro, offshore wind, etc) electricity generation technologies.
Infantry are cheaper than tanks, artillery, and surface-to-air missile systems, but one doesn’t build a modern army with nothing but men holding rifles. It turns out a system operates more effectively overall with a mix of cheap and expensive capabilities!

Some thoughts on that "$4 trillion" economic cost of going nuclear in Australia. Obviously, it was a report that intended to create a large figure and a large figure they made.

But here's the thing, what they present as issues being exclusive to the nuclear pathway should be debated 🧵⤵️ #auspol

✨ Today I learned that a Professor of Design Studies is considered an economist.

ChatGPT makes light work of gathering 60 academic bios. It would be awfully embarrassing if half of those names weren't "economists, energy analysts and policy specialists"

What is the Cost of Lies? $600 billion.

BlueSky edition.

❝The eye-popping sum of “$600bn” was not so concisely rebutted, and has unfortunately taken root in much of the subsequent coverage and discussion as pre-election politics approaches a rolling boil.❞
What is the Cost of Lies? $600 Billion.
Maybe even higher according to actual detailed analysis.

Lazard: ❝Total LCOE, including firming cost, does not represent the cost of building a 24/7 firm resource on a single project site.❞

CSIRO GenCost headlines are centred on comparing LCOE values... what I consider to be a fatal flaw with the team's work.

We strongly reject this attempt to undermine women’s autonomy and achievements by turning energy policy into a culture war. Women’s voices, in all their diversity, deserve to be heard—especially in shaping a sustainable, equitable future.

Why did we need the current #nuclear inquiry?

@chrisbowenmp.bsky.social claimed:

“Experts have told us that Peter Dutton’s nuclear scheme could cost $600bn, take 20 years, only secure 4% of the energy grid and push up your power bills hundreds of dollars.”

Which I addressed in my submission 🧵⤵️
