Ew, Blue Jays uni really killed all Dylan Cease aura

One thing you get with Alonso is reliability. He's extremely durable and has been between 120 and 144 wRC+ every year of his career, 2.1 to 4.7 fWAR in every non-Covid year.

He's already at the 1B/DH threshold so there's no more floor in that department. Just a question of how age erodes the bat.

Honestly if they're really going to do something stupid, just offer Tucker 8/300.
December 9, 2025 at 8:37 PM
If they made a firm offer of $150M for a 33-year-old DH they better be willing to do it for a SP.
December 9, 2025 at 8:16 PM
Wow, they really offered him 5/150. Insane.
December 9, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Better sign somebody before 5:30. If Mike gets the first pick again he might just change his mind on the whole thing.
December 9, 2025 at 7:57 PM
Not having to top an already outrageous offer from the home team is an advantage, as is not worrying about the draft pick. I'd *love* a 3-year deal with a higher AAV, but 4 could be OK. Just say no to 5.

There is some logic to the Orioles throwing around "stupid money." Crude WAR projections put the Orioles around 79-80 wins as currently constructed, with a few obvious holes to fill. If they feel they can buy 5-8 wins in improvements, that is high marginal value.
December 9, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Folks, we cannot fight on the timeline today. All energy most be harnessed to force Mike's pen to paper on a starting pitcher. Together, we can make it happen.

The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that AJ Preller is trying to cook up something even more batshit crazy than usual. God bless that man for saving us from boredom.
December 9, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Michael King and Pete Alonso would be a pretty bizarre off-season based on the assumptions I was making a few weeks ago.
December 9, 2025 at 5:29 PM
I am absolutely shocked at their level of interest in free agent bats. Did not see this coming at all.
December 9, 2025 at 5:21 PM
30 starts, 3.75 ERA for Peralta.
December 9, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Chat, are these numbers good?
Coupla deals coming through
December 9, 2025 at 4:40 PM
Very happy the Orioles did not do this out of desperation. 30M DH through age 37.
Kyle Schwarber goes back to Phillies. $150M, 5 years
December 9, 2025 at 4:37 PM
I support at least trying this. I have for 2 years.
December 9, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Felt like the writing was on the wall when the Mets signed Williams, but I figured it was because Diaz was set on 4-5 years. Apparently this deal is only for 3.
Edwin Diaz and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a deal, league source tells Will Sammon. Damn.

We allowed this to happen
Scott Boras on Ranger Suárez: “In the postseason, when you add a Suárez, you’re armed and Rangerous.”
December 9, 2025 at 4:04 PM
I do think Schwarber has done almost everything one can do to make up for inevitable post-30 skill loss. Positive trend lines in bat speed (esp. vs FB), Pull AIR%, and walk rate, and he simply does not give one shite about K%. He saw it work in '24 and leaned in in '25.
I think I’d prefer Alonso to Schwarber but the one thing that does make me feel okay about the latter is that his bat speed is still top class and has remained constant in the time during which bat tracking data has been available
December 9, 2025 at 3:43 PM
hey that's my shortstop
Team USA commitments for the 2026 World Baseball Classic so far.

Schwarber, Smith, Henderson and Turang were announced this morning by manager Mark DeRosa and GM Mike Hill on MLB Network.
December 9, 2025 at 3:31 PM
5/150 for a 33-year-old Schwarber is one of those things that is plainly stupid in September, starts to feel justifiable in December and then goes back to being dumb once the thrill wears off.

No thanks ✌️

Sneaky good lefty reliever option who adds starter depth. Very Rays move.
