There are many vanitas themes in Frankenstein (objects used as symbols of life's transience), but this moment made me think of my favorite artist Magnus Enckell's painting Boy with Skull (1893). There's a similar vulnerability & innocence in both, as both are bare, "newborn" creatures.

Also - apparently we made a HUGE advance in battery storage capability sometime in the past year. Renewable energy like solar is becoming more and more viable in concrete ways. We can wean ourselves from oil, it’s possible.
