Patch birder on a bike (mostly) , twitch, when I can be arsed. Rotherham United and the occasional pie.
At this rate, Black-faced Bunting will soon outnumber Yellowhammers in the UK #ukbirding

Did this between some commission bird learning, but now not sure whether to add a blue wash to the background of the main bird now... I rather like it as it is but🤔

Did a doubke-take as I drove past Catcliffe Flash. A quick U-turn confirmed what I thought I'd seen, 4 Great Egrets. Possibly a record count for the local area, though certainly the most I've seen together. #Ukbirding ##Yorkshirebirding

Jack Snip, a species I thought I'd lost on the patch due to the development of favoured areas. Hopefully, these SUDS drains will continue to hold them through the winter. #Orgreavebirds #UKbirding #Yorkshirebirding

Back on the patch and the 10km from home. Caught up with this late Spotted Fly (only the 4th patch record) that's been around since Wednesday and a couple of Pintail on Catcliffe Flash, both NFY. #Orgreavebirds #Yorkshirebirding #UKbirding

There I was enjoying this Purple Sandpiper and Snow Bunting on Filey Brigg. Blissfully unaware of what was happening in Scarborough. The dash up the cliff side was interesting, though not as much as the heart rate warning I got whilst stuck in traffic 10 minutes later 🤔 #Yorkshirebirding #ukbirding

Bucket list birds don't get much better than a White-tailed Needletail in God's own county. Almost landed on the castle on 2 occasions. #Yorkshirebirding #UKbirding

One of our local colour-ringed juvenile Ring Ouzels has turned up near Glossop. The lower bird in photo, seen feeding on Rowan & Hawthorn. Ringed in the nest at Stanage on 27/6/25 (second brood) - an 18km movement west

Great to catch up with some great birding friends on Saturday, particularly Richard Fray, who I last saw 23 years ago 🤯 Thanks to @shrikebirding.bsky.social for sorting and to @greeny55.bsky.social for catching a moment with me smiling 😉

I've been spending far too much time at my old patch lately. After a decent hour at Orgreave, with Arctic Tern and Merlin through, I found myself back at Rother Valley for this splendid Grey Phal'. Not one I expected for the 10km year. #Ukbirding #lowcarbonbirding

A slight diversion on the bike this morning, when I got a message about these 3 Glossy Ibis at Rother Valley. A return visit for 2 Ruff, took my 10km year to 140sp. #ukbirding #lowcarbonbirding

1st January 1987, and I'm rolling around (hungover) in the back of a Fiesta van to see my 1st UK Cattle Egret at New Mills. If only the 56 year old me had travelled back in time to tell me that in 40 years, they'll be on your doorstep, I could have stayed at the party and...Never mind!
