I’ve reread the paper. I think one missing point, is clarifying that evolution is NOT synonymous with Natural Selection. Evolutionary processes can equally be assigned to Genetic Drift and Natural Selection. Although the first is rarely studied (and more difficult to show as it is the null model)

This a nice paper, the misconception presented here are often the result of studying “patterns”instead of “processes”, what the authors mention as micro evolution. I appreciate the effort!! Clearly an excellent paper for a discussion with students.

Evolutionary ecologist must integrate the whole pipeline from reductionist (Chemical interaction) to paleo-history to understand processes that impact patterns (the past and present diversity)
