In summary, I don’t think it’s a matter of waiting. I think it’s intentional to use the presidential elections in an attempt to gain traction.

I agree that AOC should be an independent. I agree that the best chances heavily rely on having someone at the head with charisma AND class consciousness.

Problem is, all third parties are grossly behind reaching that 5% mark. Most barely reach 1%.

Location is the biggest factor and turnout is the biggest issue. Third parties use the [presidential] elections to gain traction. 5% is the magic number that’s needed. 5% of the popular vote. Presidential elections provide the greatest opportunity to get 5% of the popular vote.

While it may seem like third parties wait until right before [presidential] elections, the Green Party, Party for Socialism and Liberation, and other parties (even libertarianism 🤢) are active and attempt to gain traction for elected positions during every election.
