November 5, 2025 at 4:25 AM
In September, we launched @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social, a campaign to pass these historic changes. Led by @amitsinghbagga.bsky.social, the campaign has reached millions of New Yorkers in multiple languages.

And that was before Republicans on the Board of Elections tried to sabotage the measures by illegally denying them access to the ballot.

Our members rallied, creating enormous public pressure to follow the law. The BOE stood down, and voted almost unanimously to advance the questions.

It’s been a long road here.

In February, we released A Charter for Housing Equity, a report laying out a set of charter reforms to promote housing, and we’re proud that many of these ideas were represented in the final proposals passed today.

NEW: ALL FOUR PRO-HOUSING BALLOT QUESTIONS PASS!!!

For the first time, New Yorkers had the chance to choose more housing at the ballot box—and they chose it overwhelmingly. This is a historic victory for housing that will help make NYC more affordable. 🧵

This record voter turnout is a great sign for props 2-5.

Per @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social poll with Zenith Polls, YES voters are the majority across all 109 subgroups—but are especially strong among groups which have historically been less likely to turn out.

Great talking to @TheAtlantic.com about @ZohranKMamdani.bsky.social and how rent stabilization can help enable more housing.

"We learned very quickly that you’re not going to get any support for new housing in an environment where people are scared of being priced out” said @andrewdfine.bsky.social

Thank you to Habitat for Humanity NYC and Westchester for supporting ballot props 2-4!!!

“These measures will streamline the city's housing approval process and unlock more affordable homes for working class New Yorkers.”

New housing stops landlords from raising rents—take it from the CEO of AvalonBay, one of NYC's largest landlords:
"We're well-positioned… we face significantly less new supply. Land entitled for multifamily is hard to come by, the amount of time it takes to get those entitlements… sets us up well.”

Real estate investors just say this stuff out loud all the time if you know where to look
October 30, 2025 at 9:02 PM
It's amazing that housing supply deniers will say "new housing doesn't lower rents" and meanwhile real estate investors openly write stuff like "thanks to low housing production, there's less competition and we can raise rents!"
October 30, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Great point here from @hslatkin.bsky.social — the land use process was never supposed to work like this!

This plan will bring new neighbors, new commercial and manufacturing space, and new public waterfront access to Western Queens.

It received unprecedented levels of support, including 75% in favor at the @council.nyc.gov hearing this fall, and support from both local community boards.
October 29, 2025 at 9:07 PM
NEW: The OneLIC plan has been approved by the @Council.nyc.gov Zoning Committee!!!

This will bring over 14,000 new homes — including over 4,000 permanently affordable — to a transit-accessible area of Long Island City. This is NYC's largest neighborhood rezoning in decades.
October 29, 2025 at 9:07 PM
"The path to this crisis of a 1.4% rental vacancy rate and a 70% increase in home prices since 2010 has been paved by a failure to build enough affordable homes fast enough..."
