Does the Universe expand faster than the speed of light?

The Universe is expanding, and ever more distant objects appear to recede faster and faster.

At some point, they exceed the speed of light.

And yet, relativity is just fine with that.

Does the Universe expand faster than the speed of light?
Just 13.8 billion years after the hot Big Bang, we can see 46.1 billion light-years away in all directions. Doesn't that violate something?

Even remote, high-altitude (almost 14,000 feet) telescopes like Gemini North on Maunakea can’t escape light from satellite constellations. While invisible to us, they leave bright streaks in sensitive long-exposure images. @aura-astronomy.bsky.social #astronomy GeminiObs/NOIRLab/NSF/AURA/J. Pollard

This 2-panel HOO mosaic took awhile! The Flying Bat Nebula (Sh2-129) and The Squid Nebula (OU4). The very faint OU4 was discovered by amateur Nicolas Outters in 2011. Triple hypergiant star system HR8119 (center) energizes the bipolar outflow of oxygen to glow blue. #astrophotography Details in ALT.

IC 434, the Horsehead nebula, is a dark nebula located about 1400 ly away in the constellation of Orion.

The unusual colour in this image is due to the hydrogen alpha spectral line being mapped to the green channel. #astronomy

Here is a portion of Messier 24, the Sagittarius Star Cloud, which is mostly just a vast number of stars with some dark dust. There's an open star cluster, NGC 6603, visible just above the red star, right of center. 🔭

Interesting solar surface these past few days. No huge active regions but a great pattern of little ones. I was just so thrilled to see the sky. I had to take an image of something. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Sharpless 119, is a large patch of emission in the constellation Cygnus and lies some 2200 light years away. It’s only 2-3 degrees away from the North American and Pelican Nebulae, so is often overlooked.
