Despite that, Amazing Mirror is an interesting footnote in the franchise's history. Here’s hoping their next game will be better.

Despite me being mostly negative this review, I still thought the game was fun. That’s the beauty of Kirby, even if a game isn’t super tightly designed you’re still at least going to have fun because the core gameplay is timeless and easy to understand.

It’s a shame too because I’d love to see a game of this style attempted again. The ability collecting system from Milky Way Wishes would be perfect for a Metroidvania, so I hope that 2D Kirby games can give this style another shot.

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (2004) - 6.5/10

The Kirby series around this time was entering a weird phase in terms of console games, but Flagship has picked up the slack on the handheld systems and made their own duology of games.

All in all, this game is very charming and fun. Going for full completion can be kind of annoying, but it's still a ton of fun combining abilities and exploring the worlds in a new perspective!

I’d also like to give special shoutouts to King Dedede. This game marks his first (kinda) playable appearance, and this game has my favorite design for him. Thought I’d at least mention my favorite fictional character ever.

While some are still very cryptic to find on your own, here I think the game gives you enough hints to figure out how to get some of them without a guide.

Like the other games in this trilogy, there are collectables in each stage that unlock the true final boss. The Crystal Shards are your basic collectible, with three being hidden across every stage.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000) - 8.5/10

We’ve reached the final game in the Dark Matter Trilogy, and the last game made by Shinichi Shimomura. I hope he’s doing well nowadays. Thankfully, he ended his run in the Kirby series with a high note, as 64 is by far his best game.
