The only Never Trumper I really have time for is Stuart Stevens, who at least cops to his part in building a fascist machine with a "Fuehrer goes here" slot for Trump.

Guarantee there was an integration clause which made the agreement the sole understanding between the parties, regardless of prior discussions. So the "we'll be nice" pinky promise was literally worthless, erased by the actual agreement.

The system is broken and the trust is gone. Research, government generally, trade rules, and military alliances, all shot to shit permanently unless (1) we address the rot and criminality in the ruling classes and (2) we make structural changes so we can't vomit up another corrupt regime.

The rot in our ruling classes has always been there, but it feels like it's gotten deeper and more vile in the last 20 years or so. To the point where they're all compromised and entirely lacking any moral center.

So many people for years saying "they can't", "they won't", or (my lord, the sweet innocence) "they wouldn't" and mocking those who accurately assessed the nature of the conservative movement and the rot of the ruling classes and said "Why not? What would stop them? Who would stop them?"

The Republicans will NEVER run out of hostages. At some point you have to just say "Fine, fucking shoot them and own it. Let everyone see that it was you what shot them. We're not going to keep being forced to kill people for you."
