Almost everyone in the US has seen these photos at some point: Nazi book burnings, seared into our national psyche as the quintessential expression of fascist tyranny. But few people know what books they were burning, beyond the fact that many of the books’ authors were Jewish.

generally somewhere between annoyed and disgusted at the constant practice of fishing up anecdotes from history to prove “trans folks have always been here” — a rhetorical gesture aimed at whom exactly?

One thing Gwen understands more than most about the Texas and Oklahoma crack down on trans people existing in the university is that this is part of a broader movement by TPUSA and astroturf right wing groups to push society to make having a job while being openly trans impossible again.
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

Knowing that the instructor was trans is directly relevant here, in that it turns this whole deal from a random terrible essay into a knowing ploy to bait the instructor by not doing the minimum required work, then claim that the professor hated her for being cis

this is the shit that keeps me up at night
every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

In LucasArts adventure games, the protagonist is often given the chance to say "I'm selling these fine leather jackets." This is a subtle reference to jackets, the popular upper body garment.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

Journalists are jumping all over this guy but what evidence do we have that isn’t true. I’m not even saying it is true, but why would we take their word that it isn’t?
I assume journalists do this stuff all the time. Maybe more on the editorial side, but as a non-journalist, I don’t particularly care what part of the organization is tasked to do the consent-manufacturing. This assumption is based on my observations of journalism in the run up to the Iraq War.

Also I know we all like joking around about former gifted kid burnout but there's actually a full on conspiracy theory full of people who think being sent to a pull out class once a week was actually them being forced into literal MKultra Montauk government psychic kid research it's very upsetting

I *just* had to refer to this post earlier to describe ordering a bottle of fountain pen ink and getting a baggie of fucking sand!
He should do one about that one bag of dirt, from the guy who in 2004 bought a router at Home Depot, but when he got the box home inside was not a router but a bag of dirt with “puto” written on it

It is, however, amusing to me that we're all cancelling Keith Olbermann, an activity once only available to management at every cable network on which he's ever aired, and for which I've been preparing since I outgrew the children's programming block that is weeknight primetime on formerly-MSNBC.

Something KO will mention from time to time is that he used to live in a Trump building. I wonder if, on some level, he's salty his former landlord never took him to meet his favorite NYC financier... maybe visit his island?
