Skills from my previous life coaching rec gymnastics that unexpectedly translate to other parts of life:

We had to pack away equipment every day due to shared facilities. This included rolling up big floor mats. Easier with two people to a mat, but you learned to do it solo when necessary.

I'm catching up on day 1 of US gymnastics championships. Hubby comes home in the middle of rotation 4, catches about three routines, and comments 'did they change the rules? this feels different.'

I just want to know *how* he picked up on the new CoP basically from vibes.

I really love how happy Josc Roberson always looks when she's doing gymnastics.

Actually able to watch a live stream gymnastics competition live, for once! 😱

If we're concerned about gender parity in gymnastics (specifically rhythmic), why oh why aren't we encouraging this in other countries? It's stunning.

Japan in their "big 4"era? I'm here for it.
Have you wondered what at 2025 team final would look like?

For funsies I went through and got all the scores from the continental championships (+ Australia from DTB Pokal). There are still the PAC TF and University Games to come but here is where we stand.

The way he hangs in the air during the twist is seriously impressive.

My 17yo bro-in-law got his licence on Friday, then drove for an hour to Canberra. Saturday he needed to get to Sydney so he made the 3hr drive by himself.

When I got my licence, I was terrified of driving 5km alone to my friend's house. Meanwhile this kid is solo road tripping from day 1. 🤯

Catching up on the Cairo World Cup, and I'm especially enjoying the African gymnasts.

How do we convince the FIG to hold World Cup events in Central/South America and Southeast Asia, to be more accessible to gymnasts from those under-appreciated regions?

Earlier this week, Canada voted out their Trump-wannabe.

Tonight Australia did the same with ours.

They were both on track to win, before Trump started breaking everything. And in clinging to him, they fell - hard.

Trumpism is not welcome here.

A DTY is so big and effortless that on first viewing I thought it was just a single twist.

Can we have Georgieva on the Worlds vault podium this year, please?

🧵

(I love it when I can learn cool things from someone else's area of interest.)
So a couple days ago, Brooke Raboutou climbed Excalibur, a 5.15c/9b+ sport climbing route in Italy. In the process, she became the first woman to climb 5.15c.

This is a monumental achievement that hasn't gotten a lot of attention outside of climbing. Let me explain why it's a big fucking deal.

If we only ever send the athletes who are "competitive", the roster for Worlds/Olympics will be very short.

Also, this time last year would anyone have said Alice D'Amato was "competitive" on beam? No.
But does anyone think she didn't deserve to win that event final? Also no.
Saying a 13.35 on beam isn't competitive isn't the same as saying someone doesn't deserve an international assignment. Fun fact.

I just do not have the energy at the moment to even think about following NCAA gym at all, but I'm still curious to know who makes it through each stage and how the teams look.

Grateful for this space, and you armchair gym nerds posting your thoughts as you watch.

There's a miserable dog in my neighborhood crying endlessly. This happens regularly, day or night; but not every day.
Some days you think, humans probably aren't home and dog is bored. But now it's near midnight, so that's an unlikely explanation.

Some people shouldn't be allowed pets. Poor doggo.

It should go without stating but I'm going to say it anyway. We know what JC's lawyers are arguing because they are publishing their briefs to the public because this is about the court of public opinion to them. CAS and the Romanians are not--they're arguing to the court of law.
