#bbclaurak The media + newspapers went after Angela Rayner in order to get rid of her, they tried to get rid of Jess Phillips + now they are trying to get rid of Rachel Reeves. There is a pattern here against women. She isn't perfect but the budget we just had was the first good budget in a long time.

Scrapping the two-child cap is both anti-poverty & pro-learning.

Children don’t come to school ready to learn if they live in poverty. Teachers can’t focus on teaching if they’re plugging gaps elsewhere.

What goes on outside the school gates makes a big difference inside them.

It's genuinely hard to find the line in Reeves' speech that would justify the claim she told "lied", a term that has traditionally had a precise meaning. If she "maintained the perception" that tax rises were necessary and coming then - on £4.2bn of headroom pre-measures - they really were...

Can’t remember budget ‘case studies’ ever being quite so funny. Especially in newspapers that recently anointed Liz Truss a fiscal genius.
Wow - this guy must be really, REALLY bad with money if an extra £208 per month will “ruin” his retirement.

Let’s take a look at his situation based on what he told the @Telegraph

Because this does NOT add up!

No, this is not a “poor pensioner” scrabbling around for pennies…

Rather unusual for a chancellor to be told to resign for not increasing taxes as expected in light of better-than-expected revenue forecasts.

Failing to explain that..

- It was changed as a result of business and unions consulting

It takes, what, half a million children out of poverty? What better value could possibly be had from the money?

I'm hearing criticisms of the end to the two child limit, because it was done just to mollify Labour backbenchers, at a cost of £billions.

I remember another govt delivering a referendum on EU membership, just to mollify restive backbenchers. That's costing way, way more... A little perspective?

Speaking to Labour MPs tonight, most seem pretty happy about the Budget. Relief, plus delight at the two child benefit cap being scrapped.

One showed me their local CLP whatsapp group popping off with happy members and offers to help canvassing. Which they'd not seen for...a good while.
