we're still alive!

we have been working with a #gbdk programmer, and likely no longer working out of #gbstudio. our coder is currently working on a spike ROM.

I'm also working on something super cool with @montamerkc.bsky.social behind the scenes.

concept art for Dr. Higgs, friend and mentor to the player character.

I wanted to do something similar to a Professor Oak-type character, but with a much different personality. A strong mentor that can help push the narrative forward, explain things, etc.

the initial intention for OM was to make a game heavily inspired by Capsule Monsters, the concept that led to the creation of Pocket Monsters.

in the earlier sketches that Ken Sugimori did, trainers had whips!

so naturally, in OM, poachers are antagonistic and wield whips, notorious for mon abuse.

at one point, we were working on an N64 inspired game that used a lot of billboarded prerendered sprites, so this character was designed for that aesthetic.

but I think the character translates well to a GBC game.

I'll have some new gameplay to show you all soon, but I thought I would at least begin uploading some of the stuff posted on the dead bird app.

base building is definitely a big mechanic in this game. exploring to find the best spots to set up camp will be essential!

Kyle also redesigned pyrodactyl's evolution, "Pyranodon"

Initially these monsters were going to be gigantic (the size of an actual pterosaur), but I think we're going to make them a little larger than your average Charizard, which are much smaller.
