60 years ago today, Joseph Beuys explained his art to a dead hare.

Heck yeah it’s a hispid cotton rat. I never heard of one until I snapped the photo and put it into my Seek app. Spotted in Moncure, NC earlier this year back during the spring bird migration.

Joseph Beuys holding a tiny hare/rabbit.

October 1972, Joseph Beuys / Abraham David Christian shortly before Beuys was escorted out of Kunstakademie Düsseldorf after his dismissal for admitting rejected students into his class. Joke’s on them. He turned the moment into a performance piece.

Joseph Beuys identity really formed in his 40s. I turn 40 this weekend. I was born on the exact day his ‘Plight’ closed so I felt inspired to apply some of his teachings to my life. I signed up for a trash pick-up next weekend. It’s small. But we can get through this if we rebuild our communities.

Grasshoppers are so cool. Little guys don’t get enough credit or photos. (This was taken with my phone also at Jordan Lake. I need to find the picks of the yellowish grasshopper I found in our yard that had a really cool pattern on its legs.)

My dude has been sending me daily ‘Tonto in the Afternoon Sunbeam’ pics whenever he’s home while I’m away. It’s a small joy. I love this dude. (Cat and that neat guy who’s my life partner. I don’t like the word husband. It’s weird. I’m not saying it anymore. Anywho…)

I wanted my husband to be alert post-shutdown as Feds return after a pointless month+ of chaos and additional stress.

Mission accomplished.

I really need to get my camera out again. I’ve let this year zap the joy out of everything. I’m missing beautiful moments like these I captured in a park at dusk a few years ago. (Seriously I still can’t believe I got to witness these two beauties together.) #bird #owl 🪶
