Not to the point, I know, but the first thing I noticed in this graphic was how they mangled the demonym for El Salvador. It's "Salvadoran". You don't put the definite article in an adjective, folks.

I have a review in the Irish Times today, of two fine books about Gaza: Omar El Akkad’s One Day, Everyone Will Always Have Been Against This, and Pankaj Mishra’s The World After Gaza.

Fantastic exhibition at the Petit Palais yesterday of the Swedish painter Bruno Liljefors (1860–1939). Probably the greatest paintings of nature I have ever seen. Not sure how I'd never heard of him before, given he was a friend of Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson.

I misspelt Ireland's paper of record as "The Irish Tines" in a message this morning. Imagining such a publication's masthead to be something like this.

Enjoying this Perecquian inventory of an arrondissment I only half-know, despite living in the neighbouring one. Probably the fattest book Éditions de Minuit has ever published.

What a lot of people in the West seem to not be picking up on in this story is Chinese people are *really* bemused by Westerners considering sandwiches an acceptable meal. And they are no less nonplussed by the rage for elaborate gourmet deli sandwiches.
