Shifting responsibility for their safety and urging to have guns puts people who for many various reasons can't get a gun into huge disadvantage (and that's only one aspect, there's so many more)

It's fundamentally the same kind of a dilemma as with cars in the USA getting bigger. You buy a bigger one as it is "more safe in case of the road accident" at the expense of people in smaller vehicles or pedestrians, who suffer more from the impact with a bigger car.
