Lincoln expressly disavowed John Brown in an attempt to defend his party. The South neither cared nor was convinced.

“And to the bitter end, the Republicans kept trying to reach the South, kept denying any complicity in Brown's attack. "You charge that we stir up insurrections among your slaves," Lincoln told the South in his 1860 address at Cooper Union. "We deny it; and what is your proof? Harper's Ferry! John Brown!! John Brown was no Republican; and you have failed to implicate a single Republican in his Harper's Ferry enterprise” (Our Fiery Trial, 20).

Extremely funny that the first lines of the Che biography begin with confusion over the fact that Che's horoscope meant he was a weak and "lackluster" Gemini, but then dramatically revealing his mom lied about his birthday and he's actually a chad and powerful Taurus!!

Text screencap: The horoscope was confounding. If the famous guerrilla revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara was born on June 14, 1928, as stated on his birth certificate, then he was a Gemini—and a lackluster one at that. The astrologer, a friend of Che's mother, did her calculations again to find a mistake, but the results she came up with were the same. The Che that emerged was a grey, dependent personality who had lived an uneventful life. There were only two possibilities: Either she was right about Che, or she was worthless as an astrologer. When shown the dismal horoscope, Che's mother laughed. She then confided a secret she had guarded closely for over three decades. Her famous son had actually been born one month earlier, on May 14. He was no Gemini, but a headstrong and decisive Taurus.

Right in the middle of Capital, in the chapter on “Absolute and Relative Surplus Value,” Marx casually footnotes a reference to cannibalism, saying that research shows there’s about four million cannibals out there.
