I am in a coffee shop that is playing a weird mix of music. We went from "crying and throwing up in a silk shirt in the rain because my girl broke up with me" RnB to i think Megadeth. This place rules.

it's (darkly) funny that the tech titans' politics are basically "we have no choice but to end representative government because my employees asked for a slight raise in 2020"

I love that we're reverting to oldey-time peasant bullshit and I also love getting yelled at about how oldey time peasants were actually quite sophisticated and enjoyed a high quality of life
Under-the-weather TikTokers are slicing raw potatoes and placing them in their — and their children’s — socks before bed. The theory is that the potato draws out toxins.

However, experts warn against relying on folk remedies over medical care.
No, putting a potato in your sock will not cure a cold

People that are raised as "gifted kids" (in other words: 2nd graders who figure out division faster than other 2nd graders) have little to no personality beyond being smarter than their pears.

this presents as being a pedantic weirdo.

always really disturbed me how much the collective identity of working at these bigger passion industry companies is a wedge against their own employees demanding any kind of better working conditions. it happens everywhere, but it's really really prevalent in the game industry
I spoke to people who'd been with this company for more than a decade, who describe Rockstar and its games as a core part of their own identity.

And yet those very same developers were escorted out of the office by security, with no chance to say goodbye to colleagues or to even clear their desks.

I studied public health and got very close to a Master's in it and people get furious if you say "Cuba has better infantry mortality rates than the United States and has basically eliminated mother to child transmission of syphilis" despite it being factually accurate. bsky.app/profile/lili...
"Although I dutifully corroborated my various findings and wrote an honest description of what life in socialist Bulgaria had been like for ordinary people, some reviewers accused me of having been duped by communist disinformation."
What Socialism Got Right
Writing "The Red Riviera" taught me that even flawed socialist systems offered insights into equality, solidarity, and the dignity of everyday life.
