This last weekend I did a solo bike ride up Highway 39 towards Crystal Lake in Asuza. It’s a 2 lane road with minimal shoulder. Whenever I ride this route, I’m out of the shoulder because of the rock. If only there was someone who’d tidy this up.

A ride up Nichols and La Tuna Canyon to Pasadena and Rio Hondo. A lesson in mostly being able to trust google maps.
1 path was dirt, another was a walking trail and third was a flooded bike path.

People ask me about the physical and mental challenges of a 130 miles (200km) bike ride from LA to San Diego. For me though, it's more about nutrition and hydration. And the challenge of finding the perfect burrito and endless drinks.

Are recovery rides really necessary after hard rides? I get that it can help prevent stiffness and help push out metabolic wastes. But what about just resting and doing stretches?

In this video, I swerved out of the way of the door but didn't have time to check behind me. I would have been under the Subaru if it hadn't driven into the oncoming lane.

Any "avid cyclist" who claims that the solution to road safety for cyclists is simply to be more skilled and assertive should be required to demonstrate that they are more skilled and assertive than Olympic Champion Remco Evenepoel who was, this week, doored.

This is what I tell my runner friends..and you can coast on a bicycle too. I expect aero bars improve this even farther.

In 1949, GM and the others were convicted of conspiring to monopolize the sale of buses etc through NCL, but not of conspiring to dismantle streetcars. Other social and economic forces were pushing cities toward automobiles and buses: the move to suburbs and Federal funding favored highways
It’s wild that this is 100% true. LA had bicycle highways at the same time.
