Honoured to receive the Dr. Sergiy & Tetyana Kryvoruchko Award in Ukr History for Acad. Excellence. Receiving this award during the harrowing yrs of Ru’s invasion of UA gave a rare moment to pause & reflect on how lucky I am to be doing what I truly love @uoftartsci.bsky.social @uoft.bsky.social

Season 3 of #URG 🇺🇦 Ukrainian Reading Group keeps going no matter what.

We just wrapped up Autocracy, Inc. by @anneapplebaum.bsky.social

Love our group and the conversations we’re having!

Next up: The Life and Death of States (@princetonupress.bsky.social, 2023) by Natasha Wheatley.

Meanwhile, since 2021, I’ve hosted the 🇺🇦 Reading Group #URG, and we just started Season 3. We are a community of scholars of Ukraine who read books on empires, violence, nation-states, and Soviet modernity. Understanding 🇺🇦 is required.

All are welcome.

Season 3 of #URG 🇺🇦Reading Group began with our longest discussion yet on Uehling’s Everyday War. Glad we started with a book about 🇺🇦, a country we’re always ready to discuss with tireless passion.

Next: Autocracy, Inc. Onward to @anneapplebaum.bsky.social and hopefully not onward to more autocracy.

We’re starting Season 3 of our Ukrainian Reading Group #URG with Greta Lynn Uehling’s Everyday War: The Conflict Over Donbas, Ukraine.

I’m not from the Donetsk or Luhansk regions, but some of my best memories are with friends in Alchevsk, Lysychansk, Donetsk, and Luhansk. I really miss those cities
