I believe the hostility to acknowledging this as a Christmas movie comes from people naming it as their favorite Christmas movie and thinking that makes them cooler than, say, somebody who likes “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Those people are obnoxious! But that’s not because it’s not a Christmas movie.

It’s only NOT a Christmas movie if you restrict “Christmas movie” to movies where (1) someone falls in love at Christmas, (2) someone discovers the true meaning of Christmas, or (3) a hapless dad fumbles his way through Christmas. Don’t deny yourself in this way.
