A matriarch in a blue layered gown and matching headwrap holds an nza (horsetail hair) as she stares into the viewers eyes and sits on a chair. Above her a woman emerges from a green garden, wearing green and golden gowns that flicker and reflect the greenery she emerged from. Emerging from the soil and in full bloom, they create a cross generational ecosystem that connects the physical and spiritual planes.

The Garden reminds us that there will always be a season for renewal, ancestral gifts, and cyclical periods to bloom. A new divination painting, The Judgement, for @fiyahlitmag.bsky.social’s Fall 2025 issue: Gods & Monsters

Lots of inspo from memories of playing mancala in Enugu & Lagos summers. It’s a simple but robust game, & it inspired me to meditate on fate, fortune, luck, agency, and power dynamics 🌱🌰🧿
A large figure emerges from a pink monolith. This structure features the indentation and grooves of a mancala board. With some of those interior structutes housing mancala beads. The figure’s arms emerge from the structure with chipped and broken fingers and forearms, while collecting or throwing mancala beads into a swirling pool of grey black smoke. This smoke consists of various figures, spirits, tricksters, gods, and demons. Are the beads transforming into these spirits? Or is the monolith collected and transforming this smoke into matter. These smoke spirits consist of: A femme reminiscent of Igbo and Yoruba sculptures. A round octopus like head with a single beady eye. A small trickster smiling with a pointed phallus emerging from a smokey crator. A horned spirit resting in a semi fetal position. Two wailing bird heads emerging from a pot. A mini mancala board reflecting the larger monolith. The monolith figure has nzu inspired face makeup, a chieftan hat, and ember wings emerging from its back. One of my faves from the archive. It set the stage for how I see & envision my paintings. Embodied, archetypal, ancestral, futurist, jewel tones anchored in the dust and browns of the earth, mythological.
Inspired by Erkyah Badu's Yeyo (and mom trauma lol)
A femme tree goddess rises from the waters and lands. Her legs are composed of tree roots, her dress emulates the shape of the vulva and vagina. The dress folds and curtains transform into a veil that bisects the figure. Tree branches emerge from the crown and head, and house a glowing sun.

It was such a brief but surreal moment. I had been listening to her since Destiny's Child's first single (i must have been 7), so her voice and music were part of the soundtrack of my earth experience. And I was struck by the gratitude and surprise in her voice "Waiiit, you made this...for me!??? 🤯"

Happy Beyoncé day!
My favorite Bey experience was gifting her a painting I made in 2011. My sister & I saw her live at Roseland. As she finished singing I Miss You, I handed her the painting. She was in performance mode & then a sudden burst of ecstatic gratitude/surprise that I'll always cherish 🐝
