I've reached the age where I take pictures of birds now. I'm trying to decide if I really need a camera phone with an optical zoom for just this purpose.

My schedule has opened up to allow more yardwork this year and I'm getting to know my plants better. Today I did a major trim on overgrown bushes. I'm excited to see how they respond so I can better prune them next year.
For now I just watch them while softly chanting "Grow! Grow! Grow".

The worst arrogance of software engineers is that because they're clever in technology they're by extension clever in any other domain, so _obviously_ the other domains are unnecessary and "non-technical."

This woodpecker has been hanging around our neighborhood for a few weeks and I finally got a good picture of it. I had to zoom way in because it hides behind the tree when I get close, so the image is a little blurry.
The Merlin app says it's a red-breasted sapsucker.
