In DK we pay income tax on social security. And VAT is 25%. But the crux of the matter is that the large middle class, low to high income, sees that that their high taxes get them free health care, free tuition, social services, etc., etc., functioning welfare across the board. That's the deal.

The BBC and Starmer’s Labour govt share much in common. They’re easily bullied and often afraid, as institutionalised too often are, of exercising their own power. They then appear weak and ineffectual. They’re judged against standards to which their critics would themselves would never adhere...

High trust, low corruption essential.

Even if immigration policy plays a role in the DK gov's lack of support in the polls, which is questionable, a future centre-left gov, currently the most probable scenario, will not substantially change the policy.

Not really. For comparison you would have to split Labour into factions. It would then be Labour -Corbinistas -Blue Labour +LibDem +some soft neoliberals if they exist .

This could form the basis of a centre-left/centre government. And guess who would lead that government: PM Frederiksen, SD.
For many other reasons (than immigration) there is reason to worry about a right/hard right surge, but right now the centre holds.

I am aware of the point you're making in a UK context. But the comparison to DK is strange considering the completely different political system and culture.
Polls here has to be read in the context of existing and potential coalitions. Point in case: SD is bleeding to Green-Left (SF). 1/x

That's my point. Why then use Danish politics/polls in a UK context?

Made a thought experiment. 👇
SD+G/L+DPP actually up 7% from elec. (latest Gallup). Not a viable coalition here of course, and probably not in UK either, which is kind of the problem for Labour.

Drives me crazy that people use Danish politics in a UK debate. Completely different system and political culture. (for one thing it works😉). One could actually argue that the "DK Labour" coalition has gained votes. But it's 3 very different parties in DK. Maybe something to think about it UK.
